Score and leaderboards
How your score is earned, why it can fall, the milestones, and how the leaderboards rank people and Spaces.
Your score is a running count of what you have contributed. It appears on your profile and on the leaderboards. It is not a level, it unlocks nothing, and it has no effect on what you are allowed to do.
How you earn points
Points come from taking part: publishing a post or an article, writing a comment, receiving a like or a comment, receiving a reaction on a chat message, voting in a poll, RSVPing to an event, sending a chat message, creating a note, completing a task, gaining a follower, someone joining a Space through your invite link or accepting your invitation, using Novagora on a new day, and finishing the first-time setup.
A reaction counts once per person and message, however many emoji they add or take back, and a joiner counts once per Space, even if they leave and come back.
Publishing an article is worth more than a post, and finishing the first-time setup is a one-off bonus larger than any of them. Novagora does not publish the full table of point values, and the numbers are not something to play against — the counts that matter are capped per day, so posts stop earning after twenty in a day.
The caps are what stops the churn: deleting and re-posting the same thing does earn again, and runs into the cap long before it is worth anything.
Why a score can fall
If an account is inactive for a week, a small decay of 3% a week reduces its score while the inactivity lasts. Any activity stops it. A score never falls below zero, and decay is the only thing that lowers it — nothing you do is subtracted after the fact.
Milestones
Crossing a milestone sends you a notification and adds the milestone to your profile. They run from 100 points up to 100,000. A single award that crosses two milestones at once notifies you about the higher one only.
Milestone notifications are their own category, so you can turn their push off without losing anything else — see Notifications.
Leaderboards
The leaderboard ranks people by score, and you choose:
- Scope — Global, or one of your Spaces. The scope menu on the page lists them (under Your Spaces in the app), and opening the leaderboard from a Space starts on This Space.
- Period — Week, Month, or All time.
Each row shows the rank, and whether it moved up, moved down, or stayed put since the start of the week (Monday, UTC). Private accounts are never on a leaderboard, and with Pro or Ultra a public account can choose Hide me from leaderboards — see Your privacy and your data.
A Space's own score
Spaces have a score too. It is what orders Explore and search results, and it is read on the Space's own analytics rather than shown on its card. It is built from the Space's size, how many members were active in the last 30 days, how much was published this month, engagement, and how many events and polls it ran, adjusted by how much of the membership is actually active.
That last part is the reason a large, quiet Space does not outrank a smaller, busier one. Admins and the owner can see the components over time under Space analytics, on a plan that includes owner analytics.
