Finding people, Spaces, and content

Explore, global search, searching inside a Space, and how hashtags work.

There are three ways to find something on Novagora: browse Explore, use Search, or follow a hashtag.

Explore

Explore is the browsing surface: Spaces and people, ranked by how prominent they are, with the Spaces filterable by category. Anything you already follow is left out, because the point of the list is what you have not met yet. Explore ranks only so far; at the end it says so and points you to search or a category. Next to the lists, Explore shows Spaces featured by the Novagora team and what is trending: posts and articles people are reading right now.

Explore works signed out too, in the browser. Signed out there is no follow graph, so nothing is excluded and no follow state is shown.

If your personalised picks cannot be loaded, Explore says so and shows general recommendations rather than an error.

Search covers Spaces, people, posts, articles, and hashtags. The overview shows the top results per type; picking one type opens the full list for it.

Each type has its own natural order. In the app the list says which one it is using; on the web the order is the one in the table:

Type Order
Spaces, people Prominence
Posts, articles Newest first
Hashtags Alphabetical

Two messages are worth recognising:

  • No results in Posts (or whichever type you are on) — the search matched something, but not there. Switch type.
  • Too many matches to rank them all — the query was too broad to rank every match, so what you see is a slice. Narrow the query rather than paging.

Search only ever returns what you are allowed to see. A private Space's content and a private account's posts do not appear because you searched for them.

On the web, the Quick nav control (or Ctrl+K / Cmd+K) opens a command palette that jumps to a page and searches at the same time.

Search inside a Space

A Space has its own search, reachable from the Space. It covers that Space's conversations, files, notes, events, tasks, members, articles, and posts, and it respects your role: a channel you cannot read is not searchable by you. See Roles and permissions.

Hashtags

Add hashtags to a post while writing it. Tapping one opens the hashtag page. It has Top and Latest tabs for the public posts carrying it, and an Articles tab for public articles that use it as a tag. A hashtag is made of letters and digits in any language, plus underscores, so #Straße and #Köln work as written. It is stored in lowercase: #Köln and #köln are the same hashtag.

Follow hashtag on the hashtag page (Follow in the app) puts posts that use it into your Following tab; see Following, feeds, and discovery.

Hashtags are a public index: only public posts appear on a hashtag page, so tagging a post in a private Space does not expose it.

Articles use tags. Tags filter your article library and a Space's article list, and a public article also appears on the Articles tab of the hashtag page with the same name.

When you find nothing

  • Try a plainer word. Search matches the words people write, not feature names.
  • Check the type tabs — the result may be an article rather than a post.
  • Someone who has blocked you, and a suspended account or Space, will not appear for you.
