Setting up your account

The steps after sign-up — verifying your email, interests, first follows, and notifications.

Sign-up creates the account. Setup is what makes it yours. It runs once, the first time you sign in, and every part of it can be changed afterwards.

Verify your email

Novagora sends a verification link when you sign up. Opening it is what unlocks the app — before that, signing in leads back to the verification screen.

If the mail has not arrived, check the spam folder first. On the web, Resend sends a new one and counts down a minute between sends; in the app the button is Resend email. If you signed up with the wrong address, the web verification screen has Change email: enter the right address and the password you chose, and the link is sent there instead. The app has no such step, so on a phone create the account again with the right address.

Accept the agreements

Every new account accepts the documents listed on the sign-up form. If one of them is updated later, you are asked to read and accept the new edition the next time you open Novagora, and the app stays out of reach until you do. This is the only thing that interrupts you that way. See Terms, guidelines, and legal documents.

Walk through setup

  1. Your profile. A photo and an optional bio, plus your language and timezone on the web (in the app the timezone has a screen of its own). Your display name was chosen at sign-up and is not asked again. This is what the community sees; see Your profile.
  2. Your interests. Pick from the same categories Spaces use. They shape which Spaces and people are suggested to you. Interests are private — nobody else sees them — and you can pick up to 20. Going on with interests takes at least three; with none picked, skip the step.
  3. Your first follows. Featured and popular Spaces and people, matched to the interests you picked. Anyone you already follow is shown as followed.
  4. Notifications. On mobile, this is where you turn push on with Turn on notifications. Your device then asks for its own permission. Maybe later is a real answer — you can turn push on from your notification settings whenever you like; see Notifications.

Every step has a Skip or Skip for now, and every step can be left as it is and continued past. Setup ends whether you filled it in or not, and the app opens on your home feed.

Coming back later

Everything setup asks for lives somewhere permanent:

What Where
Display name, bio, avatar, banner Profile settings
Interests Set during setup only
Who you follow Any profile or Space, and Explore
Notifications Notification settings

Finishing setup also earns you points once, whether or not you filled anything in — see Score and leaderboards.

If you change your mind about the account

You can leave at any time. Scheduling deletion hides the account immediately and gives you 30 days to change your mind by signing in again. See Your privacy and your data.
