Your privacy and your data
Who can see what, per-person exceptions, downloading your data, deleting your account, and what is kept.
Novagora is built GDPR-first and hosted in the EU. What follows is how the product works; the Privacy Policy is the document that governs it.
Privacy controls
Each audience is Everyone, Followers (people who follow you), or Nobody; last seen and the profile fields also offer People I follow. All of them are free on every plan.
| Setting | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Profile details | Who sees your location, website, pronouns and timezone, unless a field has its own setting |
| Who can see my last seen | Your last seen time and online dot, on your profile and in chats |
| Who can see my local time | The local time on your profile, from your timezone |
| Who can message you | Who may start a direct message or add you to a group |
| Who can show your name on forwards | Whether a message of yours that someone forwards names you, with a link to your profile. Followers means people who follow you; anyone else's forward reads Forwarded from a hidden account. Your own forwards always name you |
Making your account private is a separate switch: with it on, following you becomes a request you approve, and your posts are not visible until you do. A private account is also left off every leaderboard, and its profile details go to your followers unless you give a field an audience of its own.
Under Discovery, three switches decide how people find you: Show my Spaces on my profile (private Spaces are never shown), Suggest my profile to others, and Appear in search engines, which applies to a public profile only.
Field visibility covers location, website, pronouns, and timezone individually. Each is Default — following Profile details — until you give it one of its own. Your local time is the exception: by default only people you follow see it (or fewer, if Profile details is narrower — on a private account, your followers).
Last seen and online
People outside the audience you choose do not see a blank: they see an approximate time — last seen recently (within three days, or online now), within a week, within a month, or a long time ago. They never see the exact time or the online dot.
It works both ways. Hide your exact last seen from someone, and you see only the approximate time for them too. With Ultra you can turn on See others' last seen while mine is hidden: it is off by default, it never shows you someone who hides from you, and it switches off if Ultra ends. Your audience itself never widens when a plan ends.
Read receipts is separate. Turning it off means others stop seeing when you read their messages, and you stop seeing theirs. With Pro or Ultra, See others' read receipts appears once read receipts are off: you read privately and still see when others have read yours. If your plan ends, you keep reading privately and stop seeing others' receipts until you subscribe again.
Muted words keep posts and articles containing a word or phrase out of your home feeds. Pro and Ultra mute more words and also hide them from search, comments by others, and notifications. Ultra can mute a word for 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days instead of until you remove it. If your plan ends, every word you muted stays and keeps your feeds clear; you just cannot add more past the Free limit, and search, comments, and notifications show those words again.
Let others save my photos and videos decides whether people can save the media you send in chat and in comments, and is where the Allow saving switch starts on a new post or article. You can always save your own. Turning it off cannot stop screenshots — see Saving photos and videos.
Your name, username, avatar, banner, and bio are always visible to anyone who can see the profile at all. That card is what makes an account identifiable, so it is not gated.
Two more choices come with Pro and Ultra:
- Hide follower and following counts keeps the numbers off your profile and closes your follower and following lists to everyone but you.
- Hide me from leaderboards keeps a public account off the global and Space leaderboards. Private accounts are never on them.
On Free both show a lock that leads to your plan. If a paid plan ends, what you hid stays hidden; you can still turn either off.
Exceptions for specific people
An exception overrides a general audience for one person and one area — profile details, last seen and online, a profile field, direct messages, or your name on forwards.
- Never share with excludes people from something everyone else can see. Every plan can exclude a limited number of people.
- Always share with lets people past a setting that would otherwise exclude them. It comes with Pro and Ultra, which also lift the limit on the people you never share with.
Each setting has both lists. Choose Add people, search, and select the people. Clear a person's selection to go back to your general setting for them. If a paid plan ends, your never-share list keeps working and your always-share list is kept but marked paused until you are on Pro or Ultra again.
A block always wins. An allow-exception cannot reopen anything for someone you have blocked.
Download your data
Request a ZIP archive of your account data and your uploaded media.
- Open Data export in your settings (in the mobile app, Download your data under your account) and choose Request export.
- The page follows the job — queued, then being prepared — and updates itself.
- When it is ready, Download ZIP. The private download stays available for seven days, and the page shows its size and the date it expires.
If the export fails, or the link expires, request a new one. The status refresh retries by itself if it cannot reach the server, so an error there is not a lost export.
Delete your account
Deleting is deliberate, and it is reversible for a while.
Before you can start: you must transfer or delete every Space you own. The form says so and refuses until that is done. See Space settings, ownership, and deletion.
- Confirm your current password.
- Read the confirmation, and schedule the deletion.
What happens then:
- Your account is hidden immediately and you are signed out.
- You have 30 days to change your mind — sign in again and choose Cancel deletion.
- After 30 days your personal information is anonymized. Your content stays attributed to a deleted user so conversations still make sense.
- Unused credits are forfeited.
While a deletion is scheduled, the settings page says so and names the date.
What is kept, and for how long
- Content you delete is taken out of view straight away and purged permanently after a short retention window.
- Deleting a Space removes its content on the same footing, after its own 7-day grace period.
- Content that is the subject of a serious safety case is preserved while that case is open, and is not removed by a deletion. This is a legal obligation, not a product choice.
Cookies and browser storage
On the web, the strictly necessary storage that keeps you signed in is always on. Preference and analytics storage is optional and used only if you allow it. Cookie preferences in the footer, or in your privacy settings, records your choice for that browser and can be changed at any time.
The mobile app has no cookie banner: it stores only what it needs to keep you signed in and running.
Your rights
Access, correction, portability, and erasure are what the export and the deletion flow are for. For anything they do not cover — including a data-protection request — write to [email protected], the address the Privacy Policy and the Contact page name.
