Writing and sharing posts

Compose a post with photos and hashtags, keep it as a draft or schedule it, edit or delete it, and share a link.

A post is the short form: up to 3,000 characters, up to 10 photos, and up to 30 hashtags. Posts appear in your followers' feeds, on your profile, and — if you posted into a Space — in that Space.

Write a post

  1. Open the composer from your feed, your profile, or a Space.
  2. Write the text, add photos or a video, and add hashtags. You can mention people (People to mention suggests them as you type), and a link in the text shows a preview card. On the web, Create a separate poll switches the composer to a new poll and keeps your post where it was.
  3. Choose where to post under Choose where to post — Your followers (Your profile in the app) or one of your Spaces.
  4. Post it.

Posting into a Space needs the post capability there. Without it the Space is not offered as a destination; see Roles and permissions.

A post needs text or media (photos or a video) — an entirely empty one is refused.

Photos

Add up to 10 photos. A post can instead carry one video (Add a video); a video cannot be mixed with photos. Picking photos never forces a crop: each shows in the composer with Edit to crop or rotate it and a button to remove it. There is no separate description to write; the post's text is what a screen reader reads beside the photos.

After you post, a photo may show as Processing for a moment while Novagora prepares the versions it serves. The post is already published; the picture appears when it is ready. A picture Novagora cannot process is rejected and the post tells you so.

Photos in a post are visible to exactly the audience the post is — moving a post out of reach takes its pictures with it.

A post with photos or a video has an Allow saving switch, on by default. Turn it off and only you can save that post's media; you can change it later from Edit. Saving a video someone else posted comes with Pro and Ultra — see Saving photos and videos.

Hashtags

Hashtags are letters and digits in any language, plus underscores, up to 30 per post. Each one gets its own page listing the public posts that carry it. See Hashtags.

Schedule a post

Schedule for later picks a date and time instead of posting now. A scheduled post is visible only to you until it publishes, and it is marked Scheduled on your own profile. Post now instead (Clear schedule in the app) clears the schedule. Scheduled posts wait under the Scheduled tab next to Drafts, where you can edit or delete one before it goes out.

Drafts

Save draft keeps a post you are not ready to share. Closing the composer with something written in it asks whether to save it as a draft or discard it. A draft is visible only to you and never reaches a feed, a profile or search.

Drafts in the composer lists everything you have saved, under the Drafts tab. Open one to carry on: its text, photos and hashtags come back as you left them, and a draft written for a Space still posts into that Space. From there you can post it, schedule it, or save it again. Deleting a draft removes it for good.

Reposting and quoting

  • Repost puts someone else's post into your followers' feeds unchanged. Undo repost takes it back.
  • Quote wraps their post in one of your own with your comment on top.

A quote is a new post: it can be edited and deleted like any other, and deleting it does not touch the original.

Not every post can be reposted or quoted: a post that is not published, a post in a Space that is not public, and a post from a private account are refused.

Editing and deleting

You can edit your own post's text and hashtags. An edited post is marked Edited, and anyone who can see the post can open See previous version from its menu to read the Edit history. Photos are not changed by an edit.

Deleting is permanent and is confirmed first. Where the post was quoted or replied to, the conversation keeps its shape and the post reads as deleted.

A moderator of the Space a post is in can remove it instead: the author is notified and it is recorded in the Space's audit log, where it can be reverted. See Moderating a Space.

A moderator can also pin a published Space post with Pin to Space (and Unpin it). A Space shows up to 3 pinned posts at the top of its home page; pinning a fourth releases the oldest pin.

Send in a message sends a post to up to 10 of your conversations at once. On the web, Copy link on any post copies its address; in the app, Share link in the same sheet hands the address to your phone's share sheet. Opening that link on a phone with Novagora installed opens the post in the app; otherwise it opens on the web. Public posts are readable there without signing in. See Novagora on mobile and on the web.
