Notifications
The notification inbox, what each category covers, per-Space levels, quiet hours, and push.
Notifications tell you about activity that involves you: mentions, replies, follows, invitations, moderation outcomes, and what is happening in your Spaces.
Your notification inbox
The inbox lists activity newest first and groups repeated activity on the same thing into one row. Filter it by category; on the web you can also filter by unread only.
- Opening a notification marks it read.
- Mark as unread puts a row back.
- On the web, a row's Notification options menu also has Mute Space name for the Space it came from, and Notification settings.
- Marking everything read works in batches on a long inbox — if the unread count does not drop to zero at once, run it again.
Each category has switches for In-app, Email and Push, on the web under Settings → Notifications and in the app under Account → Settings → Notifications. Both group them the same way: Social (mentions and comments share one row, then new followers and likes) and Spaces (rules updates, events, tasks) come first, and every other category has its own row under More notifications on the web, or More notification settings → Other notifications in the app. In-app and push default to on and email to off. Switching in-app off does not hide anything: the notifications still land in the inbox, already marked as read, except the ones that always need your attention. A few things cannot be switched off, such as rules updates for Spaces you are in.
Categories
Each category is set independently:
| Category | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Mentions | Someone named you |
| Messages | Direct messages in a conversation you have accepted |
| Follows | New followers and follow requests |
| Reactions | Likes on your content |
| Comments | Comments and replies |
| Space activity | New activity in Spaces you belong to |
| Membership | Invitations, join requests, role changes |
| Articles | Articles published, submitted, approved, rejected |
| Events | Reminders, changes, cancellations, a place off the waitlist |
| Tasks | Assignments, comments, due-date reminders |
| Polls | Polls opening and closing |
| Notes | Notes shared with you |
| Moderation | Reports and moderation outcomes that concern you |
| Feedback | Answers to feedback you sent in |
| System | Announcements and account notices |
| Score | Score milestones |
The app names five of them longer: Direct messages & requests, Comments & replies, Note shares, System & announcements and Score milestones.
Platform announcements
Some notices are from Novagora itself rather than from a Space — planned maintenance, a change to the service, an incident. These appear as a banner at the top of the app, marked by how serious the notice is, and they are shown to everyone who is signed in.
A banner stays until it is dismissed or until the notice's own end time passes, whichever comes first. Dismissing one is per account, not per device, so a notice you have read does not come back on your phone.
Per-Space notifications
Every Space you have joined or follow can be set to All activity, Mentions only, or Mute. Muting a Space here stops its notifications; it does not leave the Space and does not hide it from your feed — that is a feed control.
The settings list covers the Spaces you are a member of and the Spaces you follow, saying which each one is to you. On a long list, load more pages rather than expecting all of them at once.
Quiet hours
Turn on quiet hours and set a start and an end. Push is dropped between those times rather than delivered late. Notifications still arrive in your inbox — quiet hours silence the device, not the record.
Weekly digest
An optional weekly email summarising activity from your Spaces and the people you follow. It is one switch (Weekly digest email on the web, Weekly digest in the app), and it is off unless you turn it on.
Push notifications
Push is a mobile feature and is set up per device.
- On the device, open Account → Settings → Push notifications, and use Turn on notifications. The operating system asks for its own permission the first time.
- If notifications are switched off for Novagora in your device's own settings, the app says so and offers to open them. Novagora cannot turn them back on for you.
- Turn off on this device stops push on that device only. Turn push off on all devices stops push everywhere immediately. A device that still has its own switch on starts again the next time it opens Novagora — sign that device out to keep it off.
Occasionally a device cannot claim push because another Novagora account used it recently. Signing that other account out of the device resolves it; otherwise the device keeps retrying on its own.
The web app does not send push notifications. Sign-in, security, and verification emails are sent regardless of any of these settings.
