Terms, guidelines, and legal documents

Which documents govern Novagora, when you are asked to accept one, and how they differ from this documentation.

Novagora publishes its legal documents under Legal on the web and under Account → Help & legal → Legal documents in the app. This page explains where they are and how they work. It does not summarise or interpret them: the published text is what applies.

The documents

Document What it is about
Terms of Service The agreement between you and Novagora
Privacy Policy What personal data is processed, and why
Community Guidelines What is and is not allowed on the platform
Cookie Notice Storage in your browser
End User License Agreement The terms for using the apps
Impressum The provider's identification, as German law requires

Each document shows its version and its effective date.

Accepting them

Creating an account means accepting the documents listed on the sign-up form. They are linked there, and the confirmation box cannot be ticked out of sight of them.

When a document is updated, you are asked to read and accept the new edition the next time you open Novagora. Until you do, the app stays out of reach. That is deliberate: your account is bound by the edition you accepted, so a new one has to be accepted rather than assumed.

Acceptance records the exact edition you were shown, in the language you were shown it in.

Languages

Legal documents are published per language. Where a document has no edition in your language, Novagora shows the edition it has and marks it as not available in your language, rather than showing an unofficial translation.

This is different from the rest of the product, where your language setting always applies.

Versions

A legal document's version is its own — an effective date and a version number that change when the text changes. It is not tied to a Novagora release, and a product update does not restate a document you have already accepted.

That is the opposite of this documentation, which is frozen per release and never changes after it ships.

A Space's rules are written by its owner and apply inside that Space. The Community Guidelines apply everywhere and cannot be loosened by a Space. Where they conflict, the Guidelines win, and serious reports go to Novagora regardless of what a Space's rules say.

If a document will not load

The page says the published text is temporarily unavailable and offers to try again. Nothing is shown from a cache in its place, because a stale legal document is worse than none.

If sign-up refuses because the agreements cannot be shown, that is the same failure: accounts are not created without the documents, and it clears when the documents are reachable again.

Questions

Legal notices and data-protection requests go to [email protected], the one address the Privacy Policy and the Impressum name. The Contact page shows it too.
