Files and folders
Uploading to your library or a Space's, organising with folders, duplicates, storage, and deletion.
Every account has a personal file library, and every Space has one of its own. They are separate: a file lives in exactly one of them, and moving between them is not something Novagora does for you. On the web, the Library switcher moves between Personal and Space libraries; in the app the choices are My files and Space.
Uploading
Drop files onto the library, or use the upload control. Each upload reports its own progress and its own outcome, so one failure does not take the batch with it.
- Retry upload on a failed upload tries that file again.
- Dismiss clears the row.
Every uploaded file is scanned before it becomes available. Your plan sets the largest single file you can upload and how much storage your account holds; see Plans and credits.
Uploading to a Space needs the use capability for files there. A member with only download can read the library and not add to it.
Folders
New folder creates one where you are. Folders nest, and the trail across the top says where you are; any part of it takes you back.
- Rename a folder from its actions.
- Delete works only on an empty folder — there is no cascade, so nothing disappears with a folder by accident. Empty it first.
Opening a folder link gives you the folder and its trail, even when you arrive from outside.
Working with files
Open an image to view it at full size and zoom in. PDFs and common text files have an in-app preview; text previews are limited to 1 MiB. Download remains available separately, including for file types that cannot be previewed.
When uploading an image, you can crop or rotate it before it is sent. In the app, Choose photos scales a photo down before it uploads, and Choose original photos and videos uploads photos and videos from your photo library as they are instead. The library shows an image the same way either way, and keeps a photo chosen as an original at full resolution next to it, without its metadata except which way up it goes: Download original saves that copy. The original counts towards the library's storage.
| Action | Notes |
|---|---|
| Move to folder | Pick a destination, or the Library root (Library in the app) |
| Rename | Changes the display name |
| Download | Saves a copy to your device, on every plan |
| Delete | Permanent, confirmed first, and works on a selection |
Read the library as a list or as a grid, search by name, and sort by name or by when a file was uploaded. Select several files to act on them at once. The app has the same list and grid, search, sort (Newest first, Oldest first, Name A–Z, Name Z–A) and selection.
Open a file's details to give it Tags, which help you find it again.
Duplicates
If you upload something the library already has, Novagora marks it Possible duplicate and asks what to do rather than quietly keeping both or quietly throwing one away.
Storage
The library shows how much storage is used and how many files it holds. Your account has one storage pool: your personal library, the photos, videos and voice notes you upload, and the libraries of every Space you own all share it. A file uploaded to a Space library counts against the Space owner's pool, whoever uploads it.
When the pool is full, uploads are refused until something is deleted or the plan changes. Nothing already stored is removed.
A library also holds only a limited number of files — the app shows it as x / y files — and folders nest only so deep; moving a file shows how many levels are allowed.
What deleting reaches
Deleting a file removes it from the library and from anything showing it there. It does not reach a copy somebody already downloaded.
Deleting a Space deletes the Space's library. Deleting your account removes your personal one; see Your privacy and your data.
Files and the other tools
The library is for keeping files. Pictures in a post, an article cover, and a chat attachment are attached where they are used and are not stored here — see Photos, videos, and voice notes.
