Language, appearance, and accessibility
Switching language, light and dark themes, page width, timezone, and the accessibility features Novagora relies on.
Language
The product is available in five languages: English, Deutsch, Español, Français and Türkçe. This documentation is written in English and German only; when your language is neither, the app and the web app still run in it, but the help pages show in English.
- On the web, signed out, the language switch is in the header and the footer, and the language is part of the address, so a link you share opens in the language you were reading. Signed in, it is under Language in the account menu and under Settings → Account → Language & region.
- In the app, it is under Account → Settings → Language & region.
Once you are signed in, your choice is stored on your account, so it follows you to a new device.
Content people write is not translated. A Space's rules, a post, and an article appear in whatever language they were written in.
Legal documents are shown in the language they are published in. Where a document has no edition in your language, Novagora shows the one it has and says so, rather than showing you an unofficial translation. See Terms, guidelines, and legal documents.
Theme
Three base choices: System, Light, and Dark. System follows your device's own light or dark setting. Pro adds Porcelain, Catppuccin Mocha and Catppuccin Latte. Ultra adds Verdigris, Gruvbox (dark and light), Nord, Tokyo Night (night and day) and Rosé Pine (main, moon and dawn).
A theme your plan does not include shows what it costs to try: Porcelain, Mocha, Latte, Gruvbox and Nord can be rented for 24 hours with credits, and the rest say Ultra only. A rental starts at once, a new one replaces the old one without a refund, and three hours before it ends a banner offers the plan that keeps it. When it ends, the app goes back to light or dark.
With Ultra you can also pick an accent colour for buttons, links, switches and highlights — one of the presets or any colour you type. Novagora adjusts it so text on it stays readable in every theme. If Ultra ends, the colour is kept and comes back when you upgrade again.
Sync theme across devices decides whose choice wins. On, changing the theme anywhere applies everywhere. Off, each device keeps its own — which is what you want when the phone is dark and the desktop is not.
Page width
On the web, the width button at the top of the sidebar switches the page you are on between three layouts: Centered keeps the page in a comfortable column in the middle of the window, Wide gives it more room while keeping a margin on large screens, and Full width uses all of it. Each kind of page remembers its own choice, so notes can stay full width while your feed stays centered; Whole app in the same menu sets the width for every page at once. The choice is stored for this device rather than for your account.
There is no equivalent on mobile: the app lays itself out for the screen it is running on, including tablets and split view.
Timezone
Your timezone decides how every date and time is displayed — events, due dates, message times, expiry dates. Set it under your account settings; both the web and the app give you a searchable list of cities and regions, and Automatic follows the timezone of the browser or device you are on.
In the app, Language & region also has Week starts on — Monday, Saturday or Sunday — which sets the first day of the week in the calendar.
Events keep their own timezone as well, so a repeating event stays at the same local time for its organiser across a daylight-saving change. See Calendar and events.
Accessibility
Novagora is built to be usable with assistive technology on both platforms.
- Screen readers. Controls carry names and, where a control needs it, a hint about what it will do. Lists announce their position, and a change that matters — a result count, a saved setting — is announced rather than only shown.
- Text size. The app follows your device's text size setting, and layouts reflow rather than clipping when text grows. The web follows your browser's zoom and font size.
- Reduced motion. With reduced motion turned on in your system settings, animations are dropped rather than merely shortened. There is also a Reduce motion setting in Novagora itself, which follows your system by default and can be set for this browser or this app.
- Keyboard. On the web, every interactive element is reachable by keyboard, the focus outline is visible, and Skip to content at the top of the page jumps past the navigation. Actions that are done by dragging — moving a task between board columns, reordering a series — also have a button or menu that does the same.
- Colour. Nothing is conveyed by colour alone; a state that has a colour also has a word or an icon.
Descriptions you write
Some accessibility depends on people rather than on the product. Novagora asks for no separate caption or description: the text you post or send with a photo, a video or a voice note is what reaches someone who cannot see or hear it, so say what matters in it.
Reporting an accessibility problem
If something is unusable with your assistive technology, tell us through the Contact page. Say which platform, which screen, and what your device is set to — that is what makes it reproducible.
